Favre Wins Debut

Brett Favre played a solid game in his New York Jets regular season debut. With temperatures soaring near 100 degrees in Miami it was a battle for the players just to stay hydrated.

Favre was traded last month to the Jets from the Packers after a bad situation developed between the Packers and Favre. Now he has put that behind him and focus entirely on performing for the New York Jets. Favre has said he knows 75 percent of the Jets playbook at this time.

Here is how the game on Sunday played out. Favre threw a deep ball on the Jets second possession. The pass was caught by Jerricho Cotchery on the 5 yard line in stride and went into the endzone for the Jets first score.

In the second quarter Chad Pennington led the Dolphins on an impressive drive. The drive took 11 plays and went 78 yards. The drive was capped off by a 5 yard pass to Anthony Fasano.

The Jets later in the second quarter drove down to the Dolphins 22 yard line. Facing a 4th and 13 situation and an ailing kicker Mike Nugent who was suffering from a thigh injury. The Jets passed on the field goal attempt and decided to go for the first down.Favre was under tremendous pressure from Starks. He shrugged him and off and threw a pass up for grabs. The ball came down in the hands of Chansi Stuckey between two defenders for the touchdown. The jets then passed on the extra point because of the kicking situation. They went for the 2 point conversion which failed after Favre's pass was knocked down in the endzone. This made the score 13-7 Jets at halftime.

The Jets then in the third quarter moved the ball downfield in a drive that was capped off by a quick run of 6 yards around the right corner for a touchdown. This gave the Jets a healthy lead of 20-7.

In the fourth quarter the Dolphins started thier comeback. The Dolphins convered a 4th and 7 during this 53 yard drive. This touchdown drive ended with a 11 yard pass to from Chad Pennington to David Martin. This made the score 20-14.

The Jets then went 3 and out on their next drive. The Dolphins got the ball back on their own 39 yard line with 1:38 remaining. They never got further than the Dolphins 18 yard line. The drive ended with an interception in the endzone by Revis who made an one handed interception. Their was also a offensive interference call on Ted Ginn Jr. who tried to prevent Revis from catching the ball.

Brett Favre had 194 yards passing and two touchdowns. chad Pennington threw for 251 yards and 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.
